Course Overview
International Foundation Diploma main aim is to provide students with a high standard of tuition and administrative support. Our Foundation Programme is designed to provide you with the skills required to enter a degree course at university.
Our foundation course provides comprehensive knowledge of three pathways Business/Accounting, Engineering/ Healthcare Sciences, and Law/Politics.
The course consists of six modules taught over two/three terms, two/three modules per term. In addition, tuition is provided in English and study skills.
Our students can begin the IFP online, then join us in person when they’re ready.

Aims of Our Foundation Porgrammes
The aims of Foundation Programme are two-fold: academic and linguistic:
Academic aims
- to provide students with a qualification which enables them to enter a British university
- to develop students’ academic level to a standard acceptable for entry into a British university
- to expand students’ knowledge and understanding of their chosen field and develop their ability to apply this knowledge to a variety of situations
- to train students to study effectively in a British environment
Linguistic aims
- to improve students’ general English language ability to at least an IELTS band score of 6-6.5
- to train students to produce English essays/ assignments of an appropriate formal style and understand academic texts
- ELTS Writing: to develop your writing skills for task one and two and how to manage your time to complete your writing tasks on time.
- IELTS Reading: to develop your reading skills: scanning, and skimming.
- IELTS Speaking: to improve your spoken English your pronunciation and your confidence.
- IELTS Listening: to improve your skills in listening and convert sound into words.
Qualification Structure
Our International Foundation Diploma contains three academic routes:
- Foundation in Business/Accounting
- Foundation in Law/Politics/International relations
- Foundation in Engineering/Computing
- Healthcare and Social Science
To complete the qualification you must study and pass eight unit.
The qualification consists of the following six core units:
- Developing English Language Skills – develops your English language skills to be able to communicate effectively beyond simple everyday contexts. It aims to improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking and enables you to acquire a broad range of knowledge which you can use to confidently and effectively communicate in English. The unit guides you through Intermediate and then Upper Intermediate levels of English language study.
- Advanced English Language Skills – enables you to put into practice the language you have acquired and develop into an advanced user of English. You will make extensive use of the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing, as well as extending your knowledge of complex grammar and advanced vocabulary.
- English for Academic Purposes – develops your understanding and use of the key linguistic skills necessary to engage effectively in an academic environment where you are being taught in English.
- Study and Communication Skills – equips you with the essential study skills needed to succeed at university level. You will learn the basic skills necessary to conduct independent research, write academic papers, give formal oral presentations and apply what has been taught during lectures to your studies.
- Culture Studies – enables you to gain awareness and an increased understanding of other cultures. You will learn about various features of a foreign country and its culture, with a particular focus on student life and studying abroad.
- Foundation Mathematics – builds upon your existing knowledge in the area of mathematics whilst introducing new topics appropriate across a range of academic disciplines and for your future career.
A further two units must be taken from a choice of four electives:
- Introduction to Computer Science – provides you with a basic introduction to a range of IT topics including the organisation of a computer system, the relationship between hardware and software, applications of computers, databases, networking (with a focus on the Internet), graphics and multimedia.
- Introduction to Programming – introduces you to extensive practical use of the modern programming language Visual Basic to illustrate the classic programming principles of sequencing, selection and iteration in the context of object-oriented computer programming.
- Introduction to Business – provides you with an introduction to the purpose, types and organisation of businesses. You will also become familiar with a range of business concepts such as basic marketing practices.
- Introduction to Accounting and Economics – introduces you to the key principles of accounting and economics. You will become accustomed to concepts such as market structures and monetary policy and also learn how to produce simple financial statements.

Assessments and Examinations
- Assessments for all units will be offered in a number of assessment cycles throughout the year.
- The units are assessed by either examination or coursework assignments.
Delivery Method
The qualification is taught face-to-face through lectures, tutorials and seminars at City College Oxford campus in Oxford our one of campuses abroad. Our Lessons are typically in blocks of 3-4 hour sessions.
Regulated
NCC Education is regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator) to award the Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies in England.
Entry Requirements:
Minimum Age: 16+ years old
Academic Qualifications:
- 1 GCE ‘O’ Level passes; OR
- NITEC or Higher NITEC; OR
- An international qualification which is equivalent to secondary education.
English Language:
- IELTS minimum score of 4.5 or above; OR
- GCE ‘O’ Level D7 or above; OR
- Have the required minimum result in the NCC Education Standard English Placement Test (SEPT)
