OTHM level 5 Extended in Psychology

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Psychology aims to offer learners a specialized program of study, providing in-depth knowledge and understanding of key aspects within the field of Psychology.

Learners will undertake six units, accumulating 120 credits, equivalent to the first two years of an honour degree.

The Level 5 units enable learners to specialize and progress in various relevant subject areas, focusing on the practical applications of psychology today. Skills development areas include mental health, psychopathology, cognitive psychology, visual perception, addiction diversity, social psychology emphasizing pro and anti-social behaviour, and individual differences in criminology, intelligence, and personality. The course also explores contemporary debates and issues within the field of Psychology.

Upon successful completion, learners will possess a well-rounded understanding of psychology, applicable to further study and careers in related fields.

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Psychology qualification comprises six compulsory units, totalising 120 credits, with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 1200 hours. The recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 600 hours.

To attain the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Psychology, learners need to accumulate 120 credits.

• Individual Differences: Intelligence; Personality and Criminology (20 credits)
• Visual Perception (20 credits)
• Social Psychology: pro and anti-social behaviour (20 credits)
• The Diversity of Addiction (20 credits)
• Contemporary Issues and Debates in Psychology (20 credits)

The qualification is structured for one academic year of full-time study, with flexibility for part-time and distance learning.

The course is delivered through face-to-face sessions, including lectures, tutorials, seminars, and online resources, exclusively by approved centres.

Assessment and verification involve internal assessment by the centre and external verification by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced, focusing on achieving specified learning outcomes.

To attain a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must furnish evidence demonstrating fulfilment of all learning outcomes and meeting standards per assessment criteria. Assessment criteria judgment is made by the Assessor, who must provide an audit trail showcasing the determination of learners’ overall achievement.

Upon successful completion of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Psychology, learners can pursue various academic pathways, including progression to a Level 6 Diploma in a related field or immediate entry into diverse employment opportunities, such as:
