The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, provided by City College Oxford, is structured for a one-academic-year duration for full-time study, with adaptable options for part-time and distance learning.
The delivery of this qualification occurs through face-to-face sessions including lectures, tutorials, seminars, as well as distance and online learning facilitated exclusively by approved centres.
Assessment and Verification: Internal assessment of all units is conducted by the centre, followed by external verification by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced, contingent upon the accomplishment of specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a ’pass’ for a unit, learners must present evidence demonstrating fulfilment of all learning outcomes and meeting standards outlined by assessment criteria. The Assessor is responsible for determining if learners have successfully met the assessment criteria.
The qualification assessment involves a combination of assignments, a teaching evidence portfolio, and observation of teaching or training. Simulating teaching is not permitted for this qualification.
All learners are required to have access to 100 hours of teaching, with a minimum of eight observations of practice, totalising a minimum of eight hours.

For entry onto the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification, learners must:
- Hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification of at least the level above that of their learners and ideally a minimum Level 3 qualification in his/her own area of specialism.
- Have access to 100 teaching practice hours during which learners have full responsibility for planning, delivering and assessing specific area/s of the institution’s provision.
