The GA Level 3 Award in Education and Training is designed to provide learners with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to begin a career in teaching or training within the further education and skills sector. This qualification offers a solid introduction to teaching principles, inclusive learning approaches, and assessment practices, making it suitable for new teachers, trainers, or assessors who wish to gain a recognised qualification.
Upon completion of the GA Level 3 Award in Education and Training, learners will be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Understand roles, responsibilities, and relationships in education and training.
- Apply inclusive teaching and learning strategies in the classroom or training environment.
- Understand assessment principles and practices.
- Gain insight into planning and delivering teaching sessions effectively.
Generic and Workplace Skills
- Deliver teaching sessions with confidence and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with learners and colleagues.
- Develop skills in lesson planning, microteaching, and peer feedback.
- Apply knowledge in practical teaching or training situations.
This qualification prepares learners for further study in teaching, such as the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, and supports progression into teaching or training roles.
The GA Level 3 Award in Education and Training consists of 1 mandatory unit and optional units, totalling 12 credits, 48 Guided Learning Hours (GLH), and 120 Total Qualification Time (TQT).
Mandatory Unit:
- Understanding Roles, Responsibilities, and Relationships in Education and Training (3 credits)
Optional Units – Group 1 (choose one):
- Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches (6 credits)
- Facilitate Learning and Development for Individuals (6 credits)
- Facilitate Learning and Development in Groups (6 credits)
Optional Units – Group 2 (choose one):
- Understanding Assessment in Education and Training (3 credits)
- Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
This qualification is delivered through online learning or face-to-face sessions, providing flexibility for learners balancing work or other commitments. Course materials, guidance, and assessments can be completed remotely, with full tutor support.
Assessment
Learners are assessed via a portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement of all learning outcomes for each unit. The qualification is assessed as Pass or Fail only.
Resubmission Policy
Learners who do not achieve a Pass on their first attempt may resubmit work. Gatehouse Awards allows up to two resubmissions per assessment task, following tutor guidance.
